Dentistry has a waste problem: billions of plastic toothbrushes, single-use plastics and chemical-heavy routines. Clinics carry much of the responsibility — and so, in small daily ways, do all of us. Here is what we have changed at Saffron Bay, and what you can change at home.

What we do in the clinic

  • Digital-first records: paperless charts, digital X-rays and online forms have cut our paper use by over 90%.
  • Responsible materials: we recycle where regulations allow, use biodegradable cups, and choose suppliers with take-back schemes.
  • Low-radiation imaging: digital sensors need a fraction of the radiation of film — better for you and chemical-free for the planet.

What you can do at home

Swap to a bamboo toothbrush, choose toothpaste tablets or recyclable tubes, and — the biggest one — keep your six-month check-ups. Prevention is the greenest dentistry there is: a filling avoided saves materials, travel and anaesthetic all at once.

Every new patient at Saffron Bay receives a bamboo starter brush. Small? Yes. But a million small brushes add up to a much cleaner ocean.
